What does orange soap give us?

Oranges

Instinctively, most of us like the smell of orange. To this tempting aroma, we must also add the benefits that this fruit offers:

  • It provides a significant amount of vitamin C, as well as other important nutrients.
  • Consuming orange or its juice daily contributes to improving circulation and normalizing blood pressure values, according to a specialized publication by WebMD.
  • Improves the condition of the skin, as vitamin C helps maintain adequate collagen production, according to a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science .
  • Also thanks to vitamin C and its antioxidants, orange helps protect the skin against the sun’s UV rays. This is confirmed in a study published in Nutrients in 2017.
  • 2013 research published in Plant Foods for Human Nutrition suggests that the anti-inflammatory properties of compounds in oranges can complement the treatment of chronic diseases. However, it is concluded that more studies are needed to specify this mechanism of action.

As if all this were not enough, the color of this orange soap also has properties that, according to chromotherapy, promote optimism, mental strength, creativity, vitality and self-esteem.

Glycerin benefits

Glycerin

Most soaps, both liquid and solid, include sulfates among their main ingredients, which are intended to deep clean and lather. However, they also tend to dry out the skin too much.

On this occasion, we propose to replace sulfates with glycerin, which comes from vegetable oils, is colorless and odorless and is used in multiple cosmetic products. Glycerin is more beneficial for the skin, since, according to a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, it provides hydration and moisture.

Another of the most important characteristics of glycerin is that it is used, according to the World Health Organization, in the manufacture of hand sanitizers. This is because it is a safe substance and that it can be combined with water or alcohol without producing reactions that cause an allergy.

These characteristics could make it useful for those with dry or sensitive skin, although it is recommended for all skin types. Thus, it is also suitable for skin with acne. However, it is never appropriate to use it in any way without the prior approval of a dermatologist.

Orange soap making process

As we said, it is highly recommended to consult with a dermatologist before proceeding to the use of the following preparation. In addition, we must know that this soap is not a substitute for medical treatment for any skin condition.

Elaboration

To make this homemade orange soap, you must follow these steps:

  • As it melts, stir to avoid bubbles.
  • Meanwhile, grate the orange peel.
  • Once it has the liquid texture, add the grated orange peel, the food coloring and the orange essential oil. Then mix everything well.

If we want to make more soaps, we only have to multiply the quantities proportionally. In addition, the soaps keep very well; It is recommended to keep them covered, so that they preserve the aroma and color well.

This strong and refreshing smell is precisely due to its essential oil content. Therefore, it is also a good air freshener to store with clothes in closets and drawers.

Finally, do not hesitate to try other combinations with flower petals, spices, medicinal plants and other essential oils, such as rose, lavender, cinnamon or star anise. You will surely like the results!
